Design911 Carpet Set?

About to get moving replacing the whole intereior carpet. Southbound supply only comes in at £660 whereas elsewhere the full set generally floats around the £550 mark.

I know Steve (and a few others) have used app biz. Anyone purchased a set from Design911? If so, any problems? Or any other recommendations from other suppliers? Would go the fitted route but Southbound you're looking at £1,600. £1k I would but not sure I could find a place that cheap.

Cheers

Does that include the cost of the carpet?

They should be able to do the whole house for that, tbh.

Yes Colin, all in Southbound are £1,640. Was hoping @ £1k would do the job all in. So, I'm looking at buying carpet only and either fit myself or finding some reputable interior trimmer who will then remove the old carpet and fit the new. Can't help but think there must be so many specialists dotted around the Midlands who do this, so probably some homework to do.

The main challenge is sourcing carpet that a) no pieces are missing and b) pieces cut and sized exactly as they should.

BTW - You doing 24-hour LM again this year?

Had no idea Southbound bought in carpet sets from Lakewell. Had them bookmarked too. Wonder how much they would charge for fitting... Wil get in touch with them.

I'll be at Le Mans again this year, all being well.

I thought maybe Steve refitted his carpet a few years ago, although I could be mistaken, and there was a thread on here. You should be able to do the removal job yourself though, if you have the time.

Not sure about LM this year... I'll see.

Yup, Steve got his (RS?) carpet set from Appbiz if I recall correctly. My challenge will be finding the time. Maybe over the Easter break...

Marcus, indeed I got my lightweight carpet set from Appbiz. They also do the normal 'heavy' weight sets:

However, one thing to watch is that although you can ask for RHD fitment, I found a piece for the tunnel that was clearly for LHD (the vinyl kick patch was on the wrong side). I made do by modifying it but it's now likely fixed for new orders because Bob of Appbiz paid for me to send my original piece to him so that he could change the template for the future.

D911 do indeed sell on stuff from other suppliers that you can buy direct from. However, to be fair to them, I've found that by the time you add shipping costs and import tax when buying direct, there's not a lot in it. e.g. I bought the Rennline caliper adapters and folding tow hook from D911 and it was only a few quid more than if I had gone direct.

Cheers Steve. A bit more homework then. I'll dig out your Rennlist thread on this for any other useful tips re installation. A weekend's work with help - old carpet new carpet in?

Might take a bit longer than that because of a number of kick panels at the front that you'll need to remove, glue on the carpet and leave to set before re-installing. At least you won't need all the extra time to remove all the soundproofing and glue like I had to!

You had additional cabin soundproofing to remove other than the standard moulded inserts?

I fitted my own carpets which were bought from southbound. To be honest they were a perfect fit and colour as per original. It was I time consuming job though. re trimming kick panels and center console panels took a fair amount of time to make perfect. You need to remove the seats, seat belt anchors, center console, wooden panel by pedals, various trim, rear seats etc. The removal of the old stuff is hard too! Mine were stuck down solid!!!!!

its a nice project but budget 4-5 days to do it Properly

I can concur with Tim. Southbound carpet was made nicely and from original material, albeit with modern edging and black heel pad. The prep for fitting was time-consuming but the fit was good and the whole trim very satisfactory. If you're careful with the scissors!
It depends what you want to achieve, I guess. Southbound's fitting charge looks steep though. Possibly reflects their strong order book and sound reputation.

Good hunting.
