Hi guys,
Recently bought a 996 Carrera 2 and because I can never leave anything alone I ordered one of the Designtek intake kits from Design911. Here's a link,

There's plenty of info on here about them but if you haven't seen them it just replaces the intake hose and deletes the resonator in the airbox. I couldn't find any proper reviews on here though, just people wondering whether to buy them, so I thought I'd be the first.
I bought the kit mainly for noise, I wanted a bit more without having an open filter on there, or spending thousands on a Gruppe M or similar. After fitting this kit it is definitely louder, with a really nice howl above about 4500-5000rpm on full throttle. It isn't intrusive at all, as you'd expect with the factory airbox. My car is a standard 3.6 aside from Dansk exhausts (OE style I believe so a touch louder than stock). Fitting took about 20 minutes and only requires a couple of screwdrivers.
Power wise, generally most people agree that something like this won't add any power. I'd have agreed with that too, but handily I run a garage with a Dyno to test it out. So here's the before and after graphs laid out. There was about 6 hours between the tests as I ran it standard first thing in the morning, then again around lunch time after fitting the kit.the gearbox oil will have been cold on the second test, which is why the transmission loss (green line) was slightly higher, however the dyno accounts for this. The kit was fitted on the dyno, so everything is the same between the two tests.
The thin line is the standard airbox, the bold line is with the Designtek kit (with their own Pipercross filter).
Car - 2002 Carrera 2 (3.6) with 90k miles, Dansk exhausts
Dyno - Maha LPS3000 installed & calibrated 3 months ago
Overall for what I wanted it's definitely worth the money and the added power is a nice bonus. My only gripe is they only do the silicone hose in blue, black would be a lot more in keeping with the rest of the engine bay.
Hope this helps anyone who's considering it.
Cheers, Matt
