Detailing 912

I'm intending to do some detailing on my 912 next week. Getting married in a couple of weeks time and using the 912 as the wedding car.

Any advice on products to use? Has anyone tried using a clay bar? Also any advice on products for the metalwork, especially the engine lid grille?

thanks
Paul

One of my fave hobbies, cleaning the car, I get some stuff from a place in Watford that I swear by, I was put onto it by a guy I bought a TVR from. He is in the auto paint trade so knows his stuff and I have used it ever since. The stuff is from the USA, I go over there once a year and purchase a load directly from them, Presta Fast Wax and Presta Blue Blazes for the tires, if you drop me a line to joelandlouise@btopenworld.com I will dig out their phone number.

Also many years ago stopped using wheel cleaners due to bad experiences but was bought some Meguars recently as a Xmas pressie with some other bits by someone who knows I like to keep my car detailed and used in on the Peugeot (test subject would not have tried it on the BMW) after the winter as the wheels were bad and I could not get them clean any other way, it was not very acidic in my opinion, have used auto glym before and you can smell the acid, it frothed up and the wheels looked like new after a little bit of a help with a soft toothbrush.

I tried a lot of products through the years, and in my opinion Maguirs is top of the bill.
No affiliation, just experience...

Meguiers NXT wax is what i use on all my cars. it is easy to apply, lasts for ages (and smells really nice too!)

it has been superb on black, silver and green.

Also recently started using a claybar - brilliant!

Waffle weave sonus towels are worth a look - just wash them (no softner) before using.

You won't go far wrong with some Meguiars products, including their clay bar. Wash the car thoroughly first, then clay small areas at a time, turning over the clay as it gets contaminated, using plenty of lubricant; I use Meguiars Last Touch in a spray bottle, mixed 10:1 with water, making it economical. When you've been all over the car the paintwork will feel glass-like and then is the time to use a cleaner/polish that restores the oils. Meguiars make a Crystal Step 2 which I haven't tried, I use Swissvax Cleaner Fluid, which is great. Neither are abrasive. Then finish off with a good quality wax or sealant.

For brightware you could use Solvol Autosol or Meguiars NXT Metal Polysh . Tyre dressing and Autobrite Fast Glass finishes the outside off nicely.
