Diagnostic socket?

Further to THIS recent post on the 924 forum, whilst repairing my 944's under-bonnet inspection light yesterday I noticed the same (or similar) 5-pin 'diagnostic' socket, mounted near the brake fluid reservoir. Hadn't noticed it before because it's quite unobtrusive when covered up. Can anyone shed any light on what it is/does?
 
I think it's emissions diagnostics - predumably lets something be connected to the lambda to see what it's doing.
 
If it's the large socket near the BRKE SERVO, it's for reading DME error codes and disabling the idle speed control valve to set correct base idle.

The emissions plug is the blue one right behind the head.
