Diagnostics Software

Hi again all!

I've been looking for a sensibly priced equivalent to the "Hammer"... I see there are a load of OBD-II software tools on the web. Am I right in thinking the UK spec'd 993 isn't OBD-II compliant?

Is there any diagnostics software available for the 993 at a reasonable price?

If you want a diagnostic tool purely for the 993 then try John Speake at jdsporsche@ntlworld.com . He makes his own tool which I believe does everything that the KTS300 (Hammer) does, but at a fraction of the price. He also has reconditioned KTS300's if you want to go that route.

I just found his web site again (http://www.jdsporsche.com/index.html). Looks like it might only suit the 928 now, but when he introduced it I am sure it was suitable for 964 and 993. Probably worth an email to check.

Edit: Doh!! - Just remembered - it was the early 993's which had the diagnostic plug the same as the 964 (19 pin). However, I would ask him if he has tried the tester on a later car with the 16 pin socket. If the car hardware is the same, then it might be just a case of providing a different plug. I do know that the software in the PST2 uses the same module for diagnosis of 964's and 993's.

just got a reply from John Speake

Hello Tom,[FONT=verdana, geneva"]The most cost effective option for the private owner is the 993 is the "Hammer" KTS301 with Porsche software issue 8.1 dated 1995. With a suitable OBD2 type lead, it will diagnose the 993. The price is around 900GBP[FONT=verdana,geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]Regards.[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]John Speake[FONT=verdana, geneva"]>>>>>>>>>>>[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana,geneva"]------------------------------------------------------------[FONT=verdana,geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]ouch[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]TOm[FONT=verdana, geneva"]
