Diff replacement

I've always got an eye out for my next mod. This year KW's, next year maybe a cheeky diff upgrade in keeping with my philosophy of upgrading brakes, chassis and transmission before going to more power. I've got my eye on one of those Quaiffe Torque Sensing Diffs but wonder if it is a big job replacing the diff. Bearing in mind i'm not talking about stripping he diff - it comes almost as a sealed unit, so is it just a simple case of dropping the transaxel and unbolting the old diff from the crown wheel and bolting in the new one?

The open differential has to be taken off the ring gear so the LSD unit can be put in place of it.

As you can see on the picture below the ring gear is not on the opening side of the casing of the gearbox, and the bolts that attach the LSD to the ring gear are on the opposite side, so I'd think it's impossible to replace the diff without taking the whole gearbox apart.

Of course the clearance of the ring gear and pinion shaft has to be adjusted by someone who know what they're doing.

Good pic, unfortunately it does seem that the whole gearbox assembly needs to be withdrawn to remove the crown wheel/diff assembly to you can get to the bolts from behind. I'll put this little idea on the back burners then!
