Different alarm models - what are the differences?

I've just twigged on that the alarm system on my 96 Targa is apparently a PA100 as opposed to a PA1000 or PA2000. Does anyone know what the spec differences are between these different models i.e. do they do different things? I think I told my insurance company that it's a PA1000 aswell. Do you reckon I should confess my mistake in case they see this as a reason to repudiate any future claim (God forbid!)? Thanks

You rarely hear the PA100 mentioned - i think folk usually refer to PA1000 as a cover all. However, the single button remote fob model, with PA100 written on the fobs, is indeed that model.

As to differences, I'm not sure. I think maybe later models don't have a separate master key and don't need a separate immobiliser.

Hope you manage to eke out the knowledge from the forum though...

Hi Craig

I have a 96 Targa too and I'm sure mine is a PA1000. The remote has two buttons. Best speak to Hamilton and Palmer 01732 760022 they should be able to confirm. Let us know what they say

Remember that people lose bits for the alarm quite easily and then the only solution is to install a new system. So many cars that were fitted with a PA100 or whatever by the importer may well have been upgraded over the years.

When you phone H&P they will ask "what happens when you do X", and when you reply, they will instantly know which model you have because the models each have slightly different ways of responding to button presses.
