Differential Bearings

HELP, I need some advice, I have recently had my car inspected by OPC due to transmission
noise, and they have quoted me a price for replacing differential bearings, the car is a 2002 model 2.7 Boxster with 40K on the clock.

My question is has anyone else had this problem I.E. is it common?

The warranty company are saying it is wear and tear so will not pay and OPC have quoted £1300 for repair [X(] as the gear box needs to come out, although 2 Porsche specialists Portiakraft and Jaz have quoted approx £600 [:-], with Jaz saying they can do it without gearbox removal, I'm not sure of either of their reputations? but they are recommended by 911virgin.com.

Another 2 specialists autostrasse and Le Rose have said the gearbox needs to be removed and quoted similar prices to OPC, so another question is whether the gearbox needs to come out or not to replace the Diff bearings?

My advice is read the T&C's of the warranty document and get back to the warranty company. Wheel bearings are definitely covered, (I had one replaced under warranty), so why shouldn't diff bearings also be covered by the warranty.

Whatever you do don't go to Portiacraft, but I highly recommend JAZ. Both from experience and what I've read.
