Digi Clock question & my 944 up to date photos =]

Hi, I have a quick question. I imagine this is a popular topic on the forum however I can't seem to find a post anywhere. I have a digital clock in my 1989 944 2.7 & it does work, shows the time ok, the stopper works fine. However after dark you can't see anything on the LCD display, so I went to Porsche and ordered a new bulb, fitted it on Saturday and still nothing!!!

Does anybody know if there is a way to fix that? Would be nice to see it glow along with the other instruments on the dash :)

And here are some recent photos of my 944 at the Pershore Plum Fair 2010. It was the only Porsche there amongst 300 other classic cars, perhaps next year some Porsche Club GB members could make it to keep me company :)

I'd test for a voltage at the bulb contacts in the clock if i were you, or test the new bulb isn't also a dud (its happened to me before); as you're getting power to the clock for it to operate it it's odd that the bulb wont light.

I put a LED in mine, should last forever.

Very shiny car, lovely :)

I had a dodgy clock bulb light. Turns out it was the copper track on the circuit board had cracked. It may have been damaged with a previous bulb change? I repaired the track with some of the rear windscreen heater repair paint, and then a top-coat of touch-up paint. Worked a treat.

Thanks ghost, will take mine out and have a look.

Pastry where did you get that LED for the clock please? :)

thanks for the nice comments guys :)

Sorry to be really thick, but Pershore Plum Fair? If I went to a plum fair I'd expect to see ... ummm, perhaps some soft fruits there? You know, damsons, greengauges, and perhaps some plums ... not some Porsches!

(Good looking car all the same! [;)] )

got the LEDS off ebay, i bought 10 to do the clock and dash lights. not done the dash yet as the original bulbs still work fine. think i need 3 for the dash so if you want i'll post you one of the spares..if i can remember where i put them [&:]

thread from when i did it here; http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=543253&mpage=1& - needed a little tweaking

Hehe yeah I see you point however the actual fair was more in the town centre. They got a nice old Abby there with large grounds so the organizers decided to get some cars for the event and many clubs responded: there were Jags, Rolls-Royces, Bentleys, MG's, Minis, Triumphs, Fords, Austins, American Cars & plenty individual car owners that showed on the day. In the end just over 300 cars and it was still only half full :) Because the turn out was that good, the car show will take place next year as well.

WOW! Pastry that clock of yours looks cool in blue. It never crossed my mind to fit an ordinary LED in there, will have to give it a go. Just tell me the spec of these LED's mate and I'll pick some up myself as in my experience I'll wreck at least three before I get it right [:D]

Pershore is a nice place ... I went to school in Worcester, so know it a little. Just that I have never heard of the plum fair before. (And couldn't resist having a dig at the name!)

I got mine form a hong kong seller but cat remember the name, 509T LED in ebay search comes up with these;

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/10-X-509t-U509TB-10k-MCD-ULTRA-BRIGHT-BLUE-DASH-LED-/380273504737

seem to be exactly the same. looks like you can also get red ones which might suit your car better;

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/10-X-509t-U509TB-10k-MCD-ULTRA-BRIGHT-RED-DASH-LED-/380181819978

just remember the polarity needs to be right on LEDs so if it doenst work first time turn it 180 degrees.
