digital dash....

In a bid to bring the dash bang up to date i was considering trying to fit digital instruments in the car, does anyone make these for our cars? or would it be possible to fit one from something Jap Ie: honda S2000

There's quite a few universal ones that should fit, it's well worth having a look around at the Autosport show to see the variety available. The classic for me is the Motec one, but I don't even want to think about the implications of going for that...

I do quite like this one

I bet a non universal dash would be a PITA to fit, and appealing as something like the S2000's one may be I doubt we'd even register on the rev counter whilst bouncing off the limiter [;)]

hmm... i really do like the idea behind this, i have an electronics expert to hand to fit this for me, failing that what do you think about heads up displays? are these any good?

Can't say heads up appeals to me, so it's not something I'd thought of. The only reasons I was looking at other dash options is one of weight saving and the ability to combine the gauges I want in one place.

HUD's are not really a feasible option - there is more to it that just projecting an image onto your windscreen. It needs to be visible in all light conditions and focussed properly so that when you look through it at the outside the data is in focus so you don't have to keep on refocussing to read the instruments. If you need to refocus then you are better off having traditional separate displays on a dash as it is easier to refocus on a different point than to look at the same point and refocus. The paltry efforts at HUD we've seen from manufacturers so far are not really HUD in its true sense.

I did see something on Rennlist a while back where a chap installed a small square hi res colour dot matrix screen where the boost gauge is to display alsorts of info. I thought that a larger version of that would be quite tasty. You could configure the graphics to disply different styles of display from stock through to whatever you liked. I guess it would take some doing though.

I favour an analogue rev counter, and love Stack gear, so (with the money) would go for this [8D]

No, not at all. My first thought when I opened this thread was "Why?"

Oli.

Me too [:'(] I loathe all these modern cars with a digital speedo reading, a simple analogue needle can be read without even specifically looking at it.

Luckily we are all different [:)]
