came back on a long trip in the dark; dip beam has gone on the car it just stays on high beam th whole situation was preceeded by a slight burning smell

so i have an sc which is stuck on high beam...no body flashes as the lights arent that good is it best to replace or repair the switch.... if it is the switch...can u clean the contacts ?? i suspect it is because it still clicks fom dip to beam but no dip if you see what i mean... any ideas

i could just stay on high beam as noboby notices lol...

I had this on a car about 20 years ago. Part of the switch internals had melted meaning their was no pivot for the contacts leaving them on the main beam contact all the time. I took the switch to bits and rebuilt the pivot by melting a bit of ally into the body.

From the sound of it, you might have a similar problem, if so, high contact resistance has probably caused heating in the contact. If you can repair the switch, also clean the contact (paper works well as its slightly abrasive but won't take of the hard contact plating)

I can concur and I simply replaced the stalk. It took me a while to find out what was the problem with my lights [8|] as the previous owner put the headlamp adjuster so low my high beams had the effect of a low beam[:D]

Anyhow, one lives and learns ey.
