Dip beam, options to brighten them up???

Hi

The Full beam on my 44 Turbo is really good, but when I go back to dip it really is awefull when you compare it to my work wagon (which I understand has modern lighting etc). I used to have a Corrado and a company used to do a wiring harness upgrade for about £55 which was supposed to greatly improve voltage to the bulb, hence stronger lighting, along with better bulbs.

Has anyone tried anything to help the dip beam on their 44 with success other than HID replacements???

Thought I would try and improve things as the days are now getting shorter [:(]
Oh how I hate it when the nights get longer!!!!

Hi Lee

I improved my lighting dramatically just by fitting new Xenon bulbs at a cost of about £14 and well worth it.

Couple of things:

1. Make sure they are clean and aligned properly. Lots of 944s dont get regular headlamp washing because they are popped down during washing. get a local MOT station to make sure they are aligned properly.

2. I broke one of mine recently and was amazed at the difference a new lens made. The old ones could be very dirty inside, or heavily stone chipped on the front, scattering light in all directions. New headlights are about £35 for S2 and Turbo, less for others.

3. I've seen a few US people on RENNLIST pay for an upgraded harness to safely run big wattage bulbs []. I imagine all of our 15 year old wiring could do with a refresh to up the voltage at the bulb

Personally I thnk there is a bit of a power struggle going on with auto lighting just now. The buyers of new cars are tempted into buying Xenon, gas discharge or whatever at loadsamoney and they provide incredibly bright lighting. Everyone else then has to play catchup as theirs seem very dim. The trouble is I HATE these bright bulbs. I do a lot of night time driving and am constantly squinting, looking away , dimming my rear view mirror etc. I am sure most of these are simply badly adjusted but there are some that I just don't know how they could be road legal.

Good lighting is very important at night, for yourself AND the the other roaduser

I'll get off my soapbox now [:D]

Hi

Thanks for your swift replies.

Paul I think you are justified in jumping on soapbox, my thoughts exactly. Far too many badly adjusted headlamps.

I will check state of my lenses etc first, but in the meantime I found this site with a bit of sufing, may be of help to others too:
