Dipped headlight anomaly

Car is coming up for its MOT in a month's time and its recently developed a fault with the dipped headlights.

When the lights are on main beam, both main lights are on ok, however, when I put the dipped lights on to flash some one, the left hand main light goes out and then comes back on when I release.

Does anyone know what I need to look for?

Cheers
Spence

Do you mean when you flash your high beams one light goes out?

Firstly check your fuses as these cars have a separate fuse for high and low beams.

Secondly it could be that the wiring loom to the left lamp has chaffed through. My turbo had a similar issue where it would keep blowing a high beam fuse until after a while the left hand lamp stopped working altogether.

I split the sheathing on the loom and rolled about halfway back and found that one of the 3 wires was hanging by a thread. Simply re-soldered the wire, and finished off with some heat shrink and hockey stick type tape to bound the loom and the job was done.
