Disco Lights

A slight exaggeration of the problem but anyway.

I've just noticed that the drivers headlight on my 1990 c4 comes on when I press the brake pedal. Only on side light and only that light.
The brake lights also come on as normal.
It's obviously either some sort of earthing fault or could it be corrosion in the fuse box? (fuse box would appear more likely ugh!)
The car has been garaged during my ownership (last 2 years) and I cannot see any overt damp.
All the other lights work as they should. Hazards, Indicators, Headlights (full and low beam), fog lights etc

Before I start pulling things apart has anyone got any bright ideas?

Thank you in advance.

Chris

Have spoken to people in the know (Zentrum, Nottingham). Likely to be an earthing fault.
Let the dismantling and electrode cleaning begin!

I had a problem with my c2 targa that when the brake pedal was pressed the rear wiper operated!!! only in wet conditions. The car never goes out in the rain now so the problem is fixed!! But i suspect that it is also a earth problem or water getting in somewhere!

Good luck with the repair and let us know what you find.

Tim

Further Info.

I re-checked all the lights and they were all still working.
So took out the rear light assembly (drivers side) and cleaned up the earthing point. It wasn't corroded or that dirty really.
Rechecked all the lights. The front lamp no longer came on when I pressed the brake pedal but neither did the drivers (off) side brake light.
Looked again and the bulb had blown.
Replaced the bulb and all is well.

Apparently, when there is problem within the light cluster the current can flow (or whatever the technical term is) through the wiring system of the lights or other places in the loom causing interesting effects.
The recommendation is that you check the earthing points for the lights and all the bulbs to try to resolve the problems.

My problem appears to be a bulb that was about to blow.
