Call Bert....[:)]

My discs were "noted to be suffering from lack of use" at the last service. A lesson I intend to learn from this year!

I've always use Porsche ones or Zimmerman, the latter used to look rusty more quickly on the non contact areas but I seem to remember hearing this was no longer the case.

As for the pitting, if its just surface corrosion then make sure you do a few firmer stops before the next MOT, that should solve it [;)] (a friend also used to get this problem with his Griffith, he did the same and never had another problem)

I'd give it a go, you've not got anything to loose. When I break in my pads I have to do the same, it's just a case of finding the right road and progressively working them harder (just in case it pulls to one side etc). After a dozen 60mph stops your discs should look bright and consistent.

What sort of mileage and use has the car had recently?
