Discussion on Non Standard Exhausts - HELP PLEASE

Would be grateful for comments on exhausts for 966 (Non Turbo)

Lets face it one of the most important things about a 911 is what it sound like

A new exhaust for my 966 (3.4) is about 2k with replacement studs biu not cat

I am trying to find out what exhaust are available and more importantly what they sound like

Dansk have 2 Standard and Super both around 600 inc Vat plus fiting

I have a manufacturers sound file on these

Milltec is around 800 inc Vat - No official sound file

Design Tec 750.00 Switchable about 950.00 ( again no official sound file (Design911)

H&S 875.00

Quicksilva 1500.00 (More than Porsche)

The problem with non official sound files is that
a) They are not consistent
b) One even has a Ice Cream Van in the foreground
c) Recordings are bad

I will try and get the manufacturers to send me sound files and compile a spreadsheet of Exhausts and there sounds

Your help would be appreciated in Comments on exhausts and the Sounds

Maybe its not an Ice Cream van but a harmonic from the exhaust?
Or maybe its got really bad back pressure and can't escape the Ice Cream van that's chasing it?.

Personally I like standard with decent by pass mod [:D] cheap too.

Sorry we did not get to the meeting Deana was not well

I had read that it needed replacing but Even if it does, still loads of good secondhand ones available and therefore a much cheaper option but also I think a better option than some of the after market Exhausts.

If its rust around the silencer there all like that and double skinned anyway and if its rusty bolts, Mine weren't even recognizable as bolts when I first got the car.
Just cut them off and replace with stainless.

Have been told by a Porsche Specialist its blowing from the bottom seam at the front - slightly

Have new bolts for the Cat to manifold (Apparently stainless can cause problems on a standard exhaust but thanks)

Where am I likely to get a second hand one -

Am taking the car to a specialist in Wales who says he can weld it

I do eventually want to replace the whole system but 6 months more wear would help

Probably need to replace the 12 Manifold bolts as you say they are bad

Just feel it would be good to have a spreadsheet with all listed - nice to have decent sound files for these

Lets face it one of the main reasons you buy a 911 is its glorious sound

Had 4 urquattros in the 90s Now there is a distinctive sound if ever there was on (Lost a bit on the 20valve)

Just got this from FABSPEED

Sorry for the confusion. For the naturally aspirated 996 cars we have basically everything that you could ever need exhaust related!
Which components were you considering replacing?
If you just want mufflers, we have three options, muffler bypass pipes
(seen here: http://www.fabspeed.com/996-carrera-muffler-bypass-pipes
a Supercup exhaust (seen here: http://www.fabspeed.com/996-carrera-supercup-exhaust-system
our Maxflo mufflers (seen here: http://www.fabspeed.com/996-carrera-maxflo-performance-exhaust-system
and our valved exhaust (seen here: http://www.fabspeed.com/996-carrera-maxflo-valvetronic-exhaust-system

The muffler bypass pipes are just what they sound like and are EXTREMELY loud..
the Supercup exhaust is a nice compromise between muffler bypass pipes and our Maxflo mufflers, but is still extremely aggressive.
The Maxflo mufflers are our factory replacement system and are the most popular.
The Valvetronic is going to be similar to the factory sport exhaust and has a valve that is actuated via a remote you keep inside the car. You can see videos at all of the links above!

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Will find out about UK Distribution

If you remove your silencers start up your car!, Thats what it will sound like if you just go with bypass pipes!.

Stupid loud! not even worth considering.

If it were the last day on planet earth I wouldn't recommend it.

The manifold bolts are going to snap if anyone touches them so unless your manifold needs changing leave them alone.

I would only change the bolts on the sleeve's to the silencer and tail pipe's.
And nuts on the Brackets on the silencer any more than that and your going to be fixing more than whats broke.

http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforums/997-forum/787955-gundo-hack-bypass-or-internal-muffler-mod.html Not to be confused with bypass pipes, sound is worlds apart.

Stainless replacement nuts and bolts on the exhaust clamps and flanges are fine.

As posted previously, unless you absolutely have to replace the manifold bolts leave well alone as it has the potential to be trouble beyond belief.
