disengage 4WD on a C4s?!

i just read on pistonheads that it might be possible to disengage the 4WD on a C4S by clicking the handbrake on one notch:

can anyone confirm this or is it wishful thinking? if it isn't, i'd be tempted to try it the next time i'm on a track to see compare and contrast the difference between 2WD and 4WD....
 
Sounds as if you could do some damage to the handbrake.

I wouldn't do this if I were you.

As for the effect on any warranty or your insurance if you have an accident ... does not bear thinking about.

as i suspected tbh!

i wonder if it would be possible for porsche to put a feature in on their 4WD 911s whereby you could 'disable' the 4WD with a button push depending on what kind of handling you felt like that day....

well, i was thinking that the first click on the hand brake of every other car i've owned does nothing apart from make a light on the dash switch on :p anyway, it's apparently pointless so no need to even risk it :)
 
I believe that works on Haldex cars...the Audi S3s and R32 Golfs etc with the Hladex controlled centre clutch definately do something when the handbrake is activated - can't remember if it's a complete disconnection of torque to the rear, or just a fixed split...I think it stops rear drive completely.

Trouble is, I'm wishing my life away waiting for them to reach my price bracket. I had my mind set on a 997T Tip as my next car (some while yet), but now it looks like I might have to wait even longer for a Gen 2 PDK. [:mad:]
