Evening all, I have had an old cap, rotor ,and lead hanging around in my cupboard for a while from a 1998 993 targa that arrived for service a while back . I had not seen or worked on this car before and as is the case with all 993's it needed a bit of work. I noticed that the car wasn't running its best and while i was standing over the engine i could hear a few odd noises of electrical arcing. This is what i found upon closer examination. A serious mess i think you will all agree and a reminder that these parts are the weakest link in the ignition system!
The strain of it also burnt out one of the ignition coils ,so i had to renew those as well, obviously i changed both caps and rotors and i think i did the ht leads as well.
The engine was restored to full health. The owner was oblivious to any faults with his engine. He also had suffered some quality issues with some previously and recently fitted Pagid brake discs which had cracked right the way through on one rear if my memory serves.
