Distributer cap and rotor arm

Hello all.
I replaced the distributer cap and rotor arm on my 2.0 today and came across a couple of things that puzzled me.
Firstly I noticed that the outer distributer body has an unused terminal spade connector, should this be in use on my car?
Secondly when I took the rotor arm off I saw that the shaft that it sits on has a strange fuzzy material on top, is this correct and what is it?
Many thanks.

The spare Bosch distributor I have doesn't have a Lucar or male spade connector on it-it has a twin small socket connector for the low tension feed from the coil.This is insulated obviously
If your spade connector is not insulated & not in use at present & your car runs OK ,then there must be another connection to the distributor for the low tension.

There can be a small "felt" circular pad sitting in the rotor arm shaft recess-this is a lubrication felt onto which a few drops of light oil(3-in-1 or similar) can be dripped.
However there should also be a plip in plastic dust shield which covers the electronic trigger system underneath the rotor arm-assuming yours is not a points/condenser car.

Many thanks vitesse, I will put a few drops of oil onto the pad. Yes my car has the dust shield.
Mine has a rubber block connector (with a green wire coming from it) on the side of the distributer, I assume this is the low tension feed.

The green wire goes to the ignition module behind the passenger headlight which in turn tells the coil when to fire. Whilst you were inside the distributor you may have seen a coil with 4 prongs on the outside of it? this creates the signal which is sent down the green wire.

On the plus side I never knew the foam pad was to add oil to the distributor - lesson for me today.

If the spade terminal you have found is earthed to the distributor body, it maybe the connection for the metal shield that would probably have been on the original distributor cap.
Something like this;

Well, well, very interesting ExAudiSi.
I learn something new about the 924 all the time.
