Distributer Cap

Hi,

I do not believe that there is a replacement schedule. However, they are problemmatic, in that they develop cracks. A cracked or broken cap can be a common cause of a misfire. Since this may only affect one plug on one cylinder, it can be very difficult for the driver to detect. I believe that it is a matter of close inspection at every service and replacement as found necessary.

My car's last major service was carried out by Tony Greatorex. He always pulls all of the plug leads off of the cap to give it a good look over. One of my dizzy caps just about fell apart when he did this, suggesting that past services had not been so thorough! Do beware, they are not cheap, and you may need two of them.

hi graham looks like youve done the same mods as me....ive been advised my car could do with a replacement cap and rotors but havent checked it myself yet..i did notice euro car parts list the bosch parts miles cheaper that porsche..i bet the specialists buy them there and charge for genuine porsche parts???

i bought 2 caps and rotors from europarts and they were identical pns to the ones fitted.
Take one cap off (I suggest you soak the screws with WD40 overnight) and see how the contacts look, mine were grubby and eaten away so hence my replacements
