Can't wait for Saturday to pick it up

Paul,

All normally aspirated 964s have a dual distributor. It's supposedly a sealed unit where the primary is driven from the camshaft and the secondary is driven via a toothed rubber belt from the primary. In the original design there was a problem where the ozone produced by the sparking inside the distributors caused the rubber belt to deteriorate and subsequently break. To overcome that problem Porsche introduced a venting system which consisted of a small bore plastic pipe from the blower plenum into the body of the primary distributor. Most cars will have had the vent kit fitted by now but you should check. The pipe connected to the body of the primary distributor is very obvious.

I said above that the distributor is "supposedly" sealed - only because Porsche will not supply the belt, they will only supply an exchange distributor. There are plenty of indies around who WILL change the belt though if necessary. It's not the easiest of jobs to do yourself because the new pin which retains the drive cog is a little tricky to fit.

I hope you enjoy the car - and welcome to 964 ownership.

Regards

Dave

Curious why you went from a 2003 Boxster to a 1990 964?

I'm presently thinking of changing to a Boxster from a 1990 Carrera 4 and would be interested to know your reasons for changing.... and are you pleased you did?

Hi Colin

I don't pick the car up till Saturday I let you know, as for the change I'm moving house and I had about 24k tied up in the boxster S i needed some cash back but i still wanted a Porsche, the 3.2 was a little dated in its final drive so i choose the 3.6 looked at loads had tunnel vision had to be black with black leather try and find one a good one very hard to come by.I've never had a red car i didnt like red till my wife found this on the trader national search it looked mint. I bought it without seeing it subject to a test drive and hpi i drove home from london 4hrs after a nightshift had 5 hrs sleep and drove to Glasgow i need not of bothered the bloke was a fanatic porsche mad could not find anything wrong as new 100% mint i'll post some pics later. I hope this is start of a happy 964 ownership and im looking forward to meeting some of you fella's. plus its got 4 seats 2 more than the boxster i have 3 little boys so its ok for that unlike the boxster and with me working away it wasnt getting used (i'm starting to sound like the wife now) and ive banked a few quid for the house aswell . But the Boxster S was a star and i can't fault it and i loved every minute of it and i would have another but when I think of a porsche i think of a 964 and its something i can keep and keep involved with the PCGB.

best regards
paul
