hi all

how do i found out what dizzy i got in my engine as i cant read 050 on it or the dreaded 009

so how do i see what it is

i know it sounds stupid just learning[:)]

It is writen on the side there will be number of numbers in a line the last 3 denote the type. You may have to get a mirror to it to look or just rip it out and set it up later

the 009 is not so bad it is ok for the US as they don' t go much over 55-60mph but it' s not just that ,the 050 is much better on start up so 009 OK for temp but 050' s are £65 so change it.

right if i remember 031 is the org unit that' s nice to have I have 2 of these but I shelved them as they are old and they do wear out

best price on the 050 in the Uk at the moment is Euro car parts ( yes I did say ECP) they have some good stuff but they have to hunt for it .

050 £65.Bosch brazil one.....fitted one last week fine...

but if you can get the 031 tested and it works fine use it.

If the 031 is working stick with that.

My car arrived in the UK with an 009 and now runs an 050 - best £70 I spent on the engine!

If you are a real stickler for authenticity you can get them rebuilt in the States.
They come back like new apparently.

No idea how much

There was an article on distributors in the current 356 Registry mag. I am pretty sure that the 031 was the official replacement distributor for the 912. I will confirm when I go home!

The 912 Guide book suggests the two best distributors to have are the 031 or the 050. Seems like you have struck lucky there!

050 are new and there for not worn out YET!!!!!! but most 031 are in need of a rebuild but yours (miggs) like mine have been sitting around for a few years (15 ) so they should be OK I have changed mine for a 050 anyway.

Runs great
