DIY AC Condenser

Has anyone replaced the AC condenser located in the nose of your 993 in front of the passanger front wheel? Any advise appreciated!

It is a straight forward job. There are various suppliers of condensor. The only one that is a true fit will be a Porsche OEM unit. The pattern are not true versions as they vary in sizes. The width is the critical dimension as it has to fit in the cradle. Alot of pattern units are 41mm wide which are too large to fit and the cradle will have to be modified. I believe the ideal size would be a 38 mm which will locate correctly in the cradle.
There is a temp sensor which attaches to the cradle this controls the fan. The ceramic can crack on them and they can also be corroded and fall aprt on you so maybe a new unit will be required.
Costs for condensors vary from 120 + vat up to 250 + vat from Porsche.

Thanks guys, I've found an in depth write up with photographs by one of the guys on the 911uk forum. He uses a non OPC unit, however he did buy a one from the manufacturer who made it for Porsche at around £140 with the OPC being around £240. I will contact him and check if he had any size issues, as he may not have wanted to mention that. As for the gassing, I had the gas re-filled by my service agent which showed the cause of fault to be the condenser, for £70 a bit on the high side; however I should get a free re-fill. Their over all cost would be around £500+vat for an OPC unit so its a no-brainer about making it a DIY project, especially if the unit this guy used is a perfect fit! As mentioned by you guys, I will also be replacing the Ballast resistor. Where's the one for the oil cooler circuit Maurice?
