DIY Cutting rear valance

I have started one of my winter projects for this year and to start with I have had to cut my rear valance (any guesses why?)
It is relatively straight forward to do and only took about 30 minutes.

To start with I marked the outside of each bumper moulding with some masking tape

then, cover up the right side with tape - like this:

I thought I was an absolute genius with the next idea. I wish my wife shared the same enthusiasm.

To get an even and symmetrical cut on the valance, I made an outline on a piece of paper like this

To make sure that it was even I measured the top, middle and bottom on the left hand side valance and made marks of equal distance on the right hand side. I then cut out the right hand side of the drawing, flipped it over and made another outline on the marked right side of the valance.

I contemplated cutting this marking out with a junior hacksaw and immediatley saw through this flaw in my plan. My wife kindly took the valance to a local body shop where they cut the valance for free [;)]

The valance is now perfectly symmetrical, I just have a little more work to do...........
