DIY?

I'm looking at swapping my old sc in and am thinking about a 993 or 996 Targa. Just wondering if many owners do their own maintainance and repairs and what workshop information is available? I'm not too worried on the electrical side as this is what I do for a living but there seems to be a few problems with the 996 for reliability so I'd be interested to hear any experiences of getting them fixed!

Also, for the jobs that go beynd DIY, can anyone recommend an independant Porsche specialist in mid/ north Staffs?

Cheers

Steve

Hi,

I do as much as I can, the 996 especially is quite easy to work on. Benefit of the Porsche cost effective build policy, if it can be built quicker it can be taken part quicker. I am only a amateur mechanic but have so far:

Retro fitted cruise control
Retro fitted OBC
Fitted afternarket HID headlights
Replace air-con condenser and receiver/dryer
Fitted new speakers (hardest job of the lot due to silly design!)

Have fun and learn about your car at the same time.

Having a copy of the 996 technical guide is a god send though.

Cheers
