DL1 installed

Hi guys,
Traded my DL90 for a DL1 and installed it over the week-end. It works very well.
Thanks to Zbu for sending me in the right direction to install.

Here are the steps for anyone interested. Remember that my car is an RSR with no interior so you probably need to do things a little differently... I also had to install a horn to get the car to pass the MOT! Interesting experience that was...

Anyway, back to the DL1 (and thanks to my dad for doing most of the work!)

1) I had to buy a fuse and connectors and a switch and some aluminum sheet (1/16th of an inch)
2) fused the power supply that I took from the cigarette lighter- but since it's always on, I needed a switch.
3) Went to my DME and soldered a wire on the tach signal which is the black and violet wire (it's the same in a 993 I was told and the manuals confirm).
4) route the tach wire neatly from the DME to the location of the DL, as well as the GPS antenna which I put at the very rear of the car. I compared the accuracy (the monitor software they send) of that position vs the roof and it's basically identical.
5) Fabricated a L shape mounting bracket for the DL and fixed it to the location of where the ashtray would go with 2 screws

Et voila!

I now have RPM, real speed, G force left and right, gear selected as points to show. I also installed the camera mount (just ordered the wide angle lens) so before long, I should have everything needed to see the film and have the actual gauges on the film.

If you have a 993 you can also show throttle and brake on/off position. On my RSR you need to put a sensore behind the accelerator, which I'll probably end up doing if I see any use to it. I'll probably also send the brake signal.

Let me know if you have any questions. Now I need to figure out the software. Happy to send pics to anyone interested

Sounds very interesting. I should give it a go... How do you sync camera and DL1? Can you 'trigger' from camera into DL1? If you have the time, a few pics could help me...

BTW, in similar circumstances, my wife was more than a week late, we were stuck in Verviers (just near Spa) and I did not even have the 'RS with me [&o]

You need to sync. manually but it's pretty easy as you can do a big blip at a point that you know well and just synch at the frame level from that. At least, that's the theory! We shall see the practice when the wide angle lens comes in.
I'll take pictures and e-mail them to you. I can also send you some data files that I took yesterday if you want to play with the software. I was planning to do that today but work got in the way....
