DME query

Pretty noddy question i'm afraid but could someone tell me where the DME relay is located on a 964; am i right in thinking it is under the passenger seat? If so, is it easy to access in order to replace...any pitfalls i need to know of?

Many thanks!

Nigel,

The DME RELAY is in the central electric panel under the luggage compartment hood - it's relay R41. The Digital Motor Electronics (DME) control box itself IS under the seat. In a LHD car (like mine) it's under the driver's seat and I beleive in a RHD car it's in the same place (i.e. under the passenger seat). The relay is a known weak spot (as with most other Porsche models) and it does suffer with age. It is generally recommended that you carry a spare (preferably an updated 993 one) and it's literally a 30 second job to change it.

Hope that helps.

Regards

Dave

What a coincidence;having to use the 964 day to day at present as BMW having a new gearbox, sohaving just got back from the IOM this am remembered that somewhere I had a spare DME relay.Found it in the passenger door armrest. The relay is 944.615.227.00 in a box marked 993.615.227.00 made in Hungary!
