Well, after putting off the purchase of a spare DME to be kept in the glove box, the inevitable happened last night in the local supermarket car park and mine failed without warning and I suffered the embarrassment of returning home in the cab of a breakdown truck.

Just fitted a new one which is a 993 part. Are these still as prone to failing as the 944 one which was in previously? (I will be keeping a spare anyway!!!!)
 
Ironically, a mate of mine was just advising me to purchase the very same item. Apparently it is a 993 part. Not sure how reliable, although the 993 DME is supposed to be a superior product to the original 964.
I only need telling once ....going to pick my spare up tomorrow![;)]

I always thought the DME failure was a 993 issue. It happened to me (1994 C2) with 944 part coding. I didnt realise it also affected the 964.
 
yes i carry a spare just in case, although i believe a wire with 3 spades crimped on would do the same thing..i got fed up with it rolling around in the glovebox, so checked the fusebox and found relay 53 is unused and has the same pin layout so slotted it in there, nice and tidy......
