DME Relay????

Hi all,when the DME Relay dies,can it happen intermittently or do they just fail once and completely????
I am having an intermittent starting problem where the engine just starts to crank(sort of quarter turn) then it goes dead,sometimes i can wait a while and it will start,
at other times i have to bump it.
The battery is believed to be good(charged and tested for cranking power) and i am told that even with 98000 miles it shouldnt need a starter[>:][>:][>:]??????
Its a 94 C2.

If it isn't the dme relay check the Alarm ZV Steuergerat (928.618.260.xx). This control box is central to the electrics. On the 964 it is located under the driver's seat tight up againt the centre tunnel. Check it for a burning smell. Not fixable, just replace it.

Always go for the cheapest item first, it worth changing the DME relay if it just to eliminate it from one the many variables. It could also be the starter, mileage cannot be used as a barometer for the life of a starter.

Cheers folks,my alarm (pa 2000)was fitted about 3 years ago,before it just had a immobiliser(porsche)so i will try and find out the location of that relay.
I have got a new DME(got to find that as well)???
I might also just get a new battery as well(mine is about 5 years old).
Its so frustrating because i can get to all bar 1 bolt to remove the starter and i could change that myself(tight wadd i know)....you can see what im trying to avoid[X(]

My suggestion would be the engine earth strap, you need a good connections at both ends to handle the starting current. Its only a little time to undo and clean up the connections
