DME testing

Hi folks, I've got a 1990 model year C4 and as part of an ongoing attempt to diagnose an electronic problem, I'd like to find out if anyone has had any experience of having the DME functionally tested?

I've used the Bosch Hammer tester, but there were no stored faults (the DME has a limited self diagnosis) and so now I'd like to know if there are any UK Bosch specialists who have the equipment to test the DME if I take/send it to them.

Any ideas?

I'll also consider buying a replacement DME if you have a spare and the price is right.

Try Chris Sanderson at LOw Bank Motors, you can find him in PP. Hre has looked afer my 964 C4 for some time now, I experienced the same problem some time ago.

Just to let you know that with the help of Adrian Streathers's book (see www.adrianstreather.com) and Adrian's e-mail help, I diagnosed that the problem was with the crankshaft position sensor mounted on the bellhousing.

I did get my DME soak-tested by "ES Alternators" in Kirkintilloch near Glasgow (0141-776-3689) and they gave it the all-clear. They have the circuit diagrams for many DMEs and can pin-out your DME on a test-bed. It cost £47 +VAT and they give you a printed diagnostics report. I understand they do a next day postal turnaround for those not living in this beautiful country.
