DME

My Boxster 2000 2.7i has done 48,000 miles. I took it into for service the DME has failed?

The DME or fuel pump relay can become unreliable with age. It is the single most common fault with a non starting or poor running Porsche 911, 964, 993, 996 or Boxster.

A replacement relay is cheap and can be fitted in minutes by yourself. If you Porsche is running fine you can keep the old one as a spare.
If you suffer any type of intermittent running fault this relay is worth replacing .

The Boxster DME is found in the rear trunk on the left side of the firewall.

The DME relay is on the rear firewall near the DME itself, but the fuel pump relay is on the board in the driver's footwell. The DME relay is a common problem on the earlier cars (up to 993) but the 986 and 996 seem relatively problem-free (so far).
