DMS Automotive - Any Experience?

Review in this month's Evo of an ECU upgrade for the 997.2 turbo/S to 578 bhp, £2000, with an exhaust upgrade to take you over 600 bhp for a further £1800.

They claim of course no effect on reliability and undetectable but I was wondering if anyone here has experience?

hi, i can't answer the Q directly, but my 996tt had a very expensive Manthey re-map and europipe stage2 exhaust. It developed around 550 lb/ft (and approx 500 bhp). I always drove it enthusiastically. It was 100% reliable and trouble free for 3yrs.

In 2006 i had a 997S, and i think it retunred about 23mpg. I now have a 997S cab, and its a shade uinder 23.

Here's the interesting thing, altho the turbo was insanely fast (0-60 under 4secs, and kept pulling hard even at 180mph), the computer showed avg mpg of 26 (and that was reletively steady throughout my ownership).

I think that's called having your cake and eating it [:)]

What torque figures do they quote Mark? They may be an issue with the PDK if it's a big increase - not sure.

As a gen 2 turbo s owner I read this artical with interest, especially the part about a deeper sounding exhaust system, which is also difficult to tell visually from standard. I was chatting to a chap who had a gen 1 turbo DMS car at the Pistonheads breakfast meet last week who rated it highly.

My car is so fast that extra BHP is great but certainly not essential, the sound is something to improve upon though, although it is better than a standard turbo

Alan, the full kit £3800 gives you 604 bhp and 590 lb ft, up from 493/479 for the normal turbo and 523/516 for the S.

Looks like almost all the power increase comes from the higher torque, not increased max RPM and, presumably, they lift the maximum boost pressure and are relying on the PDK to be able to handle that without stripping the cogs...

Question is, how much is a new PDK? £12k? £15K?

Since the earlier post my copy of EVO has dropped on the door mat so I see that it was a PDK they used in the test. In the grand scheme of things the price quoted seems pretty fair for the extra grunt and sound available. Khushy is right though about the warranty side of things and I will see how bored I am when the warranty runs out next year!
I think you should go for it Mark and let us all know how you get on......![:D][:D]

I had a 997 and then 997S both chipped by DMS. Difference was amazing especially throttle response. Totally reliable and OPC serviced cars no problem. When I traded the first via OPC, DMS re-programmed back to standard for no charge. They are excellent to deal with and even came out to my office when there was a glitch in the software.

Go for it and let us know what you think.

A bit of "interwebbing" seems to suggest that the torque limit for the Turbo's PDK is around 585 lb ft, so the DMS figure would be on the very upper limit if that's true?
