dms chips

Please I have a 2011 Porsche Cayman R. I have been thinking of having a DMS chip fitted. It is claimed to give a big increase in both bhp and torque. Just inquiring if any body has had any dealings with DMS and any advice, On chips in general. Many thanks Jonathan.

I've not heard of anyone chipping an R and do not know of the differences on the intake or exhaust system from the Gen2 S, both of which are items usually changed prior to chipping on the Gen1 & 2 S. I'll transfer this question to the main section as the FAQ's section is intended to provide answers to questions normally asked by those new to the model either with a view to gaining advanced info prior to buying or a simple item such as bulbs or fuses etc.

I've dealt with DMS in the past and they have a good reputation. I don't think you will see a big gain in BHP but you'll probably see a gain at the top end of the rev range, even potentially better MPG but I don't think I'd ever get it if I went down this route! I know folk that have had them done and with DMS and they have been very pleased. The other one is REVO which if I recall provides a way to switch between maps for servicing work etc.

Softronic (US based) are good and you can flash the car yourself. They also offer a porsche motorsport 80mm intake plenum & throttle body with the software. Couple that with headers & sport cats and you are sorted! I've been looking into this a lot, lots of info on planet 9. Have decided to go for SRP (softronics plenum + flash), fabspeed headers (with 200 cell sport cats) and get a durametric pro cable so I can see the car data before, after and during the changes. Think I might even fit everything myself as its diy jobs and there are good installation guides on planet 9. Alternative is IPD (74mm and 82mm with TB) but I don't think there is much difference between the 82mm and SRP. Softronics don't support the IPD 82mm + TB (they say it is too large) with their software. EVOMs also do flash, generally speaking most folk going for IPD plenum get EVOMs as an alternative to SRP + flash. Of course this is almost 4k for maybe 30bhp and for a bit more cash you can get TPC turbo kit, which is 100bhp (or more)! I know you were asking about a flash but if you look into it long and hard this is where the path leads

So you've decided to take the plunge then Graeme? Keep us posted on your progress - hope you've got a nice warm garage in which to fit all the stuff. Good luck! Jeff
