Do 996s have UV filtered windscreens?

Ok - apologies if this is a stupid question BUT.......
I have a Road Pilot fitted to my 996 C4S - this is a GPS based speed camera detector. This was fitted in Jan and has been running fine until the last couple of weeks. Basically it has started to lose any satellite signal and on some occassions does not get any signal for the entire journey.

The trouble shooting guide that came with it states that UV windscreens can interfere with the signal causing the GPS to not be able to obtain a fix.

Is this something that others have encountered/heard about and do 911's have UV windscreens

Thanks again for your comments

Caz

Hi
Not that I am aware of - I know that BMW/Renault et al offer 'comfort' or heat reducing windscreens, but I've never seen one offered as an option on a Porsche.
You might be able to tell by crouching down in front of the car and looking at it from different angles - if it appears a translucent 'bluey' colour it might well have the extra UV filter laminate in it.
For the record, they are a waste of money in my book - my wife has one on her 330i and it doens't make a jot of difference that I can tell!
Good luck with your problem
Rob

No they dont. I use road angel successfully in my 996. I did have a similar problem which resulted in a free repair by Road Angel themselves. SOmething to do with on board battery and satellite tracking module.

I have a 're-radiating' aerial for the road angel. It's new and boxed. It is an external aerial, that is about 3' square and flat (bar mat thickness -ish) it plugs into the back of the unit and allows you to locate the aerial in a clear signal area and so stops problems with poor signal. I originally bought it for my dad's 575m, as he wanted to locate the unit off the dash board and in the center console - however the beast was sold!

Sounds very strange - is it some obscure literal translation from another language? All glass filters UV light - you can't get a suntan in a greenhouse, so by definition all glass windscreens are UV filtered.

Sunglasses are UV filtered because they have plastic lenses.

I think Caz was getting confused with the fact that some new cars have heated/climate control 'elements' built into the windscreen glass and these can effect radio/satellite signals travelling through.

The question was lifted straight from the RoadPilot's trouble shooting guide which states the following as one of the reasons that may be causing me not to get a signal

-" The antenna is fitted on the dashboard and the vehicle has a UV filtered windscreen (the metallic particles in tinted windscreens can sometimes interfere with satellite signals) "-

thanks for all your comments!

Shouldnt need any additional aerial, my satnav and Road Angel all work well through the windscreen. It is Renault that have most of the probs as they have a metallised sun screen coating on the the windshield to cut down heat transfer into the car from the sun
