Do all Gen II cars have PCM 3.0?

I wonder if anybody can tell me whether PCM 3.0 came as standard on all 997 Gen II cars and whether Bluetooth come as standard with PCM 3.0?

I have just ordered a September 2008 Gen II 911S which does not have the telephone module but does have the BOSE upgrade, universal audio interface and extended nav option and I want to know if I can expect my iPhone to work with this!?

Can't find the answers on Google and I have emailed the dealer but await their answer.

Thanks!

Hi Neil and welcome. The answers are yes and yes. However, compatibility of different telephones with the system has generated much discussion in these parts. A phone compatibility is shown here

In essence the bluetooth will work in one of two ways (dealer selected) - as HFP (hands free profile) or SAP (sim access profile) In the first case it does what it says on the tin, i.e just operates as a hands free system. In the second case the PCM uses the sim card in your phone and effectively "becomes" the phone with all it's associated functions - messaging, phonebook etc. I think from memory the iPhone only works with HFP. Interesting to see what the dealer comes up with. Enjoy the car!

Thanks Captain - I'll see what happens when the car turns up but the most important thing to me is that I can simply get the phone (iPhone4) to work handsfree over the car speakers so I'm not overly concerned whether it is HFP or SAP.

By the way, I read my original post back and should have made it clear that I don't get the car till July as I am relocating home from Australia hence my emails to the dealer rather than actually being able to figure this out in the flesh so to speak!

I've had an 02 Boxster and an 82 911SC over here so looking forward to the 997! UK prices are half the price of Australia which is very nice.......infact I got £30k for my SC when I sold it recently which should give you an indication of what you pay for a 997 out here!

Captain - I've done a bit more research on this this morning and my car does not have option 619 (mobile phone prep) or 666 (telephone module) on the original sales invoice so are you sure it will have Bluetooth enabled?

Ah - I was assuming that it would have one or the other! 619 gives you HFP and the 666 gives SAP, HFP and a sim card slot. Without either bluetooth connection may well be an issue.

So my next question is - can either option be retrofitted by a dealer or is there an aftermarket solution out there?

I really should have checked this before I paid my deposit..............!

Bluetooth capability can be retrofitted but will cost in the region of £800 for the module and fitting. Other options will be after market solutions such as Parrot and will cots about £250 to £300 fitted by a specialist.

In a nutshell with PCM 3.0; it comes standard with bluetooth but every type of phones will not work without the telephone module. You will need to get the telephone module from Porsche as the costs of retrofitting one will be quite similar. The PCM 3.0 only works with fibre connection and its a real pain to get it fitted and you need someone who has real expertise in doing this as well. It is totally different from PCM 2.0 in terms of connectivity. Hope this helps and clears any doubt you may have.
