Do I buy a Macan

As you can see we have a Cayman and a Macan. I've never owned an Audi (or a Merc) but am sure they are good cars and will do a good job for you. As it is; I can talk to one dealership and build more of a relationship with them when both cars are the same make. I can get more out of the one car club. I'm assuming that you are comparing like with like and that the SQ5 is a diesel? Each to their own. ATB David
 
Delivery times on the Macan are still quite long, but coming down. I was told up to 9 months for a diesel, but it could possibly be this side of Christmas. The SQ5 is about 12 weeks, so I could get one sooner than a Macan, but I'm not that fussed about how long I wait, I'm not in a hurry.
 
Hi, I suspect I may get a biased opinion on here, but I have a dilemma. I took a Macan S Diesel and an Audi SQ5 out for a test drive yesterday and I loved them both. The Macan felt slightly better round the corners but the SQ5 felt quicker. I was actually quite surprised that I enjoyed the drive of the Audi as much as I did. I probably preferred the interior of the Macan (my wife thought the opposite), but I could live with either. The Audi is going to be very slightly cheaper, but not by much.

Is there any impartial, constructive advice out there?
 
It may help to look on the forums at http://www.macanownersclub.co.uk Many of the posts there are from first time porsche buyers and the SQ5 debate has had an airing. There are also some comparison tests on youtube. If you can tolerate the waiting time for a Macan then that has to be your choice - it is a tighter and more capable SUV even if a bit slower on paper. Both have adequate performance. The solution of course is to buy the petrol S ! My Macan is due within the next two weeks having been on order a since last June. However, different OPC's have different delivery records so if you go the Macan route give some thought to which OPC to use. In any event delivery times are coming down - again the forum mentioned above has threads on all these issues. Warning - too much time on the forum can be bad for your wallet! Good luck.
 
Thanks for the link DCGT3, I've now spent hours on that forum! The upshot is that I've now placed a deposit on a Macan order. I suspect I'll be on that forum for many more hours now and probably on the configurator just as much.

There's a reason for the long waiting time on the Macan and a standard waiting time for the Audi - is that a clue!

 
Go for the Macan, you can always sell it!!

I had the same dilemma over whether or not to buy an electric or gas cooker. eventually I bought a Primus stove!!

He has never stopped :ROFLMAO: Stuart read John H article a very good read ....I notice a load for sale on PH different spec and models available , but some have said all with a premium as I am not in the market I have no idea if this is true

 
Thanks for all of your replies and apologies for not acknowledging them sooner; I've been spending pretty much every waking minute on the Macan forum that DCGT3 introduced me to. I enjoyed your article too John H, I haven't had the benefit of 3 days in a Macan, but 2 test drives have been enough to convince me that this is my next car.

Those notoriously long lead times are coming down, particularly with the diesels. I must have been extremely lucky though as I placed my order at the beginning of June and I've got a September build for delivery in early October. I've got to finalise my spec in the next few days, which has been an engaging, challenging and ultimately costly task, but I think I'm there now. Here's the spec for those that are interested.
