Do I need a Radiator Gaurd?

Good Afternoon,

I am a new owner of a 944 adn I have noticed that the Radiator seems to be rather exposed. Being an ex-MR2 owner which had a smilar issue I was always advised to put some kind of mesh/guard on straight away. Should there be a guard already there or is this not a problem?

I've never heard on any great incidence of problems. The MX5 community say the same about their exposed radiators, but I threw the skanky mesh away that had been fitted to the front of my last one and I haven't read a raft of posts on their forums about holed rads.

Anything that interrupts the impact of debris to the radiator also interrups the flow of air through it. Personally I don't like the idea of extra mesh from an aesthetic viewpoint which colours my judgement, however.

Totally Agree about the asthetics and have no interest in putting any non-standard body parts on my 944 unless I have to.

Thanks for the reply

Even though the cooling fins are pretty thin I think it is a fairly robustly made radiator and haven't ever heard of damage from road debris in nomal use.

On a similar vein, I saw the radiators from the Spyker F1 car during a PCGB tour of the factory last week and their fins were so fine that it looked like they had both been peppered with a shotgun []. The mechanic said they replace them fairly frequently, but they are custom made in-house and cost over £5k each. On their limited budget they sometimes leave them in longer than is ideal.
