Do I need to change my moniker?

Mixed feelings today.....

My white '86 has just disappeared up the road on it's way to a new home in the Midlands. Sad to see it go, put a huge amount of effort into it and was rewarded with a great looking car. Hopefully it will serve the new owner well.

In the meantime......

Got a bit over excited at an auction yesterday, the upshot being that I am now the (ahem) proud and rather frightened owner of a scruffy '86 Turbo in LHD USA spec with a somewhat dubious provenance. Needs a lot of work but appears rust free. Plan to get it here next week, MoTd first so I can get it UK registered, then smoke around in it a bit 'as is' to assess what the hell I've bought. Then I'll decide what to do with it next..........

....and yes, the camera does lie, it don't look that nice in the flesh.

Of course, my choice of forum moniker seems a tad inappropriate now considering I now have the Darth Vader of 951s, being black with black leather inside. Maybe I should change it to something a tad more generic considering the rate that I get through cars.

Congratulations! In spite of your lying camera the car looks pretty good. Considering that auto detailers seem to be on par with master art forgers these days I suppose there may be some surprises waiting for you. Good luck and wish you many happy miles in your turbo.

Wondering how many American 944's are out there? I bought mine in Washington DC in 1990 (a 1989 model). She was returned to the UK (after being used as my computer car) and registered there. She is now with me here and registered in France. I still have the telephone dial wheels, but like the look of yours. I have American workshop manuals if you need any advice. There are a lot of differences between EU and USA specs. Here in France for instance, the corner marker lights are illegal so I had ro deactivate them and paint them black to past the national test. UK registration was more straightforward, though I had to make modifications.

Kind of like the US spec, makes it a bit different. I'll keep the marker lamps, it's a shame someone's put euro spec repeaters in the wings as well, as I could have used the front markers for this instead. The red panel between the tail lamps will be going so I can fit a standard rear plate and number plate lamps, not sure if I'll keep the big rear bumper or fit a Euro one instead.

Without putting too fine a point on it, the rear bumper would be the very first thing I'd change on that car!

I quite like the red panel at the back. It reminds me of the Tresor panels you could get for the back of Mk2 Golfs, if anyone remembers them! Looks like it's lit up as well. Do all of the rear lights work in the same way as euro-spec cars?

Oli.

No rear fog lights, but there is a hole for a bulb in the cluster so I can fit one without too much aggro. Also need to fit white front sidelights.
If anyone wants the rear panel, I've stuck it on Ebay. Would swap it for a pair of original number plate lamps.
