Do you dream in colour? I do...

OK, into my 4th week now of pacing backwards and forwards, followed by more pacing back and forwards, and so on and so forth.

...'only' another 6 months or so to go now!!

Anyway, during this period I must have changed my mind at least 10 times every day on what colour to go with. All other options are now definitely fixed (apart from the rear wiper, which by the way looks to be a 50:50 split tie on the poll I took!).

I was so certain on Midnight Blue; but then I started looking at used 997 Carreras in Midnight down at my local dealer and my enthusiasm for this colour is starting to wane. It just looks too dreary when the direct sunlight is not on it, and almost black when the light really fades.

The longer I wait the seemingly more extrovert I want the exterior colour to be! Not quite up to yellow/red/white yet though. So this has left me with the following choices. The order of which (as of today at least is):

1. Cobalt blue
2. Ruby red (waiting to see some real life pics of this "" should close to Carmona red though)
3. Midnight blue

So, I have been creeping towards Cobalt. Jason's pictures of his car (http://www.rennteam.com/showflat.php?Cat=0&Board=997turbo&Number=293561&page=3&fpart=1) are simply the best looking Turbo I have seen on the web, hands down. However, I'm pretty sure the pics colours have been enhanced by Photoshop before posting, so they probably aren't the most accurate representations to base a real world judgment on.

Have you guys all gone through similar mental self-torture? How much did you change you minds on colours?

Here are some of my favorite pics right now, with fairly accurate colour representations:

Always dreamt of mine in black but spared the torture of having to make a selection because the deal in this house is I choose the car my wife picks the colour.

I'm with Allan on this one, I was going to go safe with Atlas Grey for the 997 but my wife commented that we were just being boring and the classic Guards Red was the way to go this time round. Was persuaded and with hindsight am really pleased we did. Easy to keep looking fresh and clean unlike the Cayenne in Basalt - what a nightmare!

i do like the guards red the adverts at the moment with it on the cayman look really good....but i went for atlas grey and have to say after 15 months dont regret it for a second-deep,lustrous just a bit more interesting than basalt(IMHO) and a joy to detail(!!!!!)[:D]

Obviously colour is a personal choice but I think it depends on whether you are using the car everyday or just on weekends and fine days. If the latter you can go for a colour that is more difficult to look after such as Basalt black but looks really good when clean. I have owned Midnight Blue and Cobalt and prefer the former. The Turbo looks great in black and it suits the Turbo wheels. While you are waiting try and look at as many cars as possible in the colours you are interested in to help you make up your mind. The real car often looks different to the picture.

There is a view that says the dream is better than the reality!!

Saw a GT3 in Cobalt at Raby Castle last year (North East region's event). It looked absolutely stunning in that colour, far better than Midnight Blue which has always been one of my favourite colours.
In the end it is down to personal preference and you are tha one who has to live with it so go with your heart.
Cheers,

And what about the interior????
Sue

Interior is set:

  • Black leather
  • Leather centre console
  • Aluminium handbrake/gearstick
  • Multi-Function-Steering-Wheel in thicker leather
Was quite easy as that's pretty much what I have now so know that I like it. Same for the other car options as I have most of them now on my C2S Cab and those specific to the Turbo I am pretty much getting ALL of.

The variable really is the outside colour.

For me at least, a red Turbo would result in WAY too much attention from undesirables (eg. yobs and traffic-police)

The first Porsche I ever drove was a 997 C4S Cab in Atlas. It looked really understated and classy. I am just not sure that's what I am aiming at with a Turbo.

Another issue is MY08 Atlas becomes a Special colour with an extra 1k price-tag, and I have already spec'ed out way more options than I originally intended. So ideally I want to stick with the MY08 standard metallic colours.

I have basalt black now so although I would say the very best colour in general for a 911 is black, I am really after a bit of a change.

What I really want is a blue between lapis and cobalt or a really dark blood red. Colour to sample is such a gamble though.

I love my Guards Red C4S, but if I replace it with a Turbo in a few years time, I am very tempted by Meteor Grey. There was one on the recent Cotswold Rally with cocoa interior, looked superb...

I was torn between Meteor and Atlas when I ordered. Decided on Atlas and when I arrived at dealership to spec the car, saw a few of each and knew that it had to be Meteor (which looks particuarly good with Turbo wheels)

My 997S was in Cobalt and looked absolutely fantastic. The only problem was that it seemed to really suffer with stone chips - highlighted by the fact that the grey primer shone through. So at trade-in time I was told it needed a full front end respray FFS!
When I spec'd the Turbo my first choice was going to be Fountain Blue from the Exclusive range, BUT was told it would delay the car by up to 6 months. So i went for Artic silver, which is safe and looks good. When I collected the car in Stuttgart I couldn't believe what greeted me in the upstairs display area - a glorious Fountain Blue Turbo! There's a picture of it on the official Porsche web-site in the Factory collection section. Looks great and the replacement car will be this colour - role on Spring 08!!
Black is cool - but IMHO looses the detail.
