Temp sender for the turbo apparently

no apparantly about it - its the temp sender for the auxilliary water pump that cools the turbo and runs swhen you witch off the engine

Most of them are quite 'wobbly' and don't inspire confidence when you handle them, but can still work fine enabling the turbo cooling pump to run when the engine is hot

Unless the temp is very hot this sensor will not affect the running of the pump after ignition off, this will run for a set period anyway even if the engine is cold, It does run when the coolant temp reaches (115 IIRC - its stamped on the side) to ensure additional flow through the turbo - In normal road use this is usually once the coolant temp has risen in traffic and when you boot it before the fans have cut in.
If you have caned it and shut the engine down immediately (not recommended) it may extend the run on time. Basically if the pump runs after you switch off dont think the sensor is ok. If it is 'wobbly' it probably needs replacement, used to be not very expensive from an OPC.

Posting at the same time as Diver and unusually disagreeing - I wired my wobbly one up to a flashing LED and couldnt make it trigger - banged the outer copper down so it didn't wobble - it triggered once and then went wobbly again. Replaced it and it would trigger. All it does is earth the wire so easy to wire up an indicator Fused supply to positive side of led negative side connected to snder (strip back wire and slip into connector). Triggering takes effort stationary until fans nearly cut in, apply boost ideally on a racetrack.
