Does any one track their 996 TT?

Is this a good idea?

If I'm to venture out on track in my TT what should I expect?

For example I've heard that the brakes are not too clever...................Why is this? Is it down to pad compound or insufficient cooling?

Should I scrap the idea altogether and take the Beach Buggy?

Thoughts and suggestions appreciated.

My Turbo has been modified and goes really well around a track. I'm sure you will be fine. Give it a go !

its still only 5.30 am here - hence time to review the Forum!!
we are staying just alongside the Kodak theatre so all the Oscar ceremony stuff is still around - quite a buzz last night as we went out for supper.
Boarding QM2 after lunch today so that's when the real holiday begins...

Jeff, Great time to go, wet and grey here

sorry Turbo lovers for off topic.

Back on topic, Turbo drivers please take care on track, we saw two incidents last year, the one at Castle Combe the worst I have seen. Its too easy just to put the hammer down.

A good friend of mine tracked his 996 Turbo a few times last year and found it felt heavy. Also, quite a bit of wear on tyres an brakes as you would expect.

He is looking for a 964 RS or early track day special to use this year. Maybe you should get yours out!!

Yoda Lee is just being a bit middle aged at the moment he has the tool but does not use it instead all wheel drive PSM PCM PASM SPASM ASK JIK KIT TLC etc etc etc gone soft.........take the AMGSL55 out and spank the 996TT's!

Yes I know....crazy when you think that I have the perfect track day weapon sitting at home but that cotton-wool is a pig to get off.[;)]

been driving the Turbo most days for commuting over the last 6 or 7 months and I'm just interested to see how it handles when driven in anger. Brakes are my main concern.

Yoda...don't know what your friend is use to driving but I guess it's gonna feel like a bus compared to the light and nimble RS.[&:]

lee ,
ive been wtching this thread closely,as i said previous, new to the 996 turbo ownership!! are brakes a concern with these cars on a track day any more than any other car after 4-5 laps!!can i assume your talking about brake fade??

cheers

mike

I think fade is an issue if you stay out for a long time, just like most cars. The 996TT stoppers seemed pretty good. Main concern my friend had was that it was getting expensive as he pretty much finished a set of road tyres in 2 days at Bedford, a set of pads and probably some wear on the disks.

He also said he could feel the weight of the car when changing direction quickly which meant it just wasn't quite as much fun. Light weight is a good recipe for speed but it also makes the car feel more responsive and fun to drive. Just try a Caterham!!

thats good to know that no major issues then, 2 days on track and i would expect a set of pads and tyres!!

roll on the 8th and Ill see how it handles through the cones and chicane against the scoobs!!![:)]

On the last last trackday at Croft in September, one of the guys there was kind enough to take me out in his modified 996 Turbo.

Oh.............My..............God.

Absolutly awesome. That's all I can say really.
