...driveway?

I'm planning to dip a toe into the water of 930 ownership. Everything is in place and ready to go for the right car - but for one thing...

The approach to my garage is through a 30ft long narrow driveway between the house and a 6ft high garden wall. The SC can be easily driven through the gap and with care can be reversed back out again.

Has anyone got an accurate measurement for the total width of the body of a 930? The measurement between the rear arches is what I'm worried about, but also a measurement from wing mirror to wing mirror would be most helpful.

Otherwise, can anyone lend me a Kango?

The width measurement from my 930 Turbo drivers manual is 1775mm or 69.89 inches. This compares to 1652mm (65.04 inches) for the 911 Carrera. I assume that this measurement is for the widest part of the car ie. the rear arches.

Not sure what the measurement is from wing mirror to wing mirror but they fall within the width of the rear arches as in if you can get the rear arches in you will get the wing mirrors in as well unless you have a funny shaped/built garage in which case you could always fold the wing mirrors in.

The reversing back out wil lbe the biggest challenge IMHO - the rear wings are so very wide (compared to the narrow bodied cars) that it is difficult to get a true feel for width using the door mirrors and it would be a shame to dent those beautifully wide flares.

Buy one and then go hire a kango hammer!

Is there no one with the actual car who is willing to go and show you exactly how wide it is?

I find measurements one thing and the real thing totally something else!!

You know what I mean! It's a spacial awareness thing!

I always read your name as Drummer bottom anyway [:-]

Thanks for all the input.

Just a few figures to put things in perspective.
- The driveway is about 10metres long between a brick wall and the house wall. The garage is in the back garden and is offset by about 70cm to the driveway. Which means reversing into the gap between the house and the garage requires a kind of parallel park manouveur.

- The width from wall to wall is 1,970mm.

- My current Porsche is an SC with a body width of 1,652mm. This leaves just under 32cm total spare = 16cm each side. On paper that seems a lot - in reality reversing down a 10 metre alleyway with 16cm each side is a bit tricky! It's correcting the direction which is the trickiest bit - the front of the car has to swing a long way to make a small difference to the back of the car.

- The turbo would be 1,772mm which would leave about 10cm each side!!

Does anyone have a turbo in the cheltenham area and is willing to give me a demonstration of their reversing skills?!

There must be someone!!

Come on you lot, you don't have to go all the way just present him your rear end!!!!
