Does the wind deflector make much difference?

Hi folks,

Just wondering if the wind deflector for the 997 Cab would make much difference when the roof is down? The price seems excessive for what it does? Anyone used them before?

I've used my car with and without and it is definately better with the wind deflector. You can even drive down the motorway without getting too much wind around your head and neck.

Certainly made a heck of a difference to my 968 cab - virtually no "wind from behind" roof down windows up, best part was loosing the hot air from the passenger seat (AKA SWMBO bitching!).

I ended up buying the real McCoy from my OPC, more expensive than after market types - but fitted straight into the fitting places, where the after market one I looked at needed holes drilling in the rear quarter panels. Keep an eye on eBay - when I was looking, there were a few 996/7 wind deflectors up for auction.

Do you mean the 996/997 ones on ebay are the genuine ones?

Best thing I ever purchased for my Cabriolet, made a massive difference to the wind blowing around the back of your head and the noise on your ears from the wind buffering. At motorway speeds it wasn't as obvious..
It also meant that you could leave stuff on the back seats whilst driving without the worry of someone or thing leaning in..

Second best thing was a smart top.... one touch operation of the roof plus many more things...

The 997 has the abilities of the smart top I think. As for the wind deflector I have taken the plunge, I found one on fleabay which is a genuine item so I've bought it, should get it next week. Funny, I've only had my car a couple of weeks and haven't even had the pleasure of driving it with the roof down yet. I do know what difference the deflector made on my 987 though.

The wind deflector really is worth every penny. It extends the time you can use the cabrio right into winter, and it folds away really neatly. My advice would be to go for it!

FWIW, on my wife's 120i cab, it makes THE difference between wanting to drive top down at 'speed' (i.e. open road 40+) and not. Frankly cannot understand why (aside profit...) it isn't standard as it's misery without...

The buffeting you get with the sunroof open warrants something to calm things down. Frankly, otherwise the sunroof is a waste of time unless at 20mph.

Do you open the sunroof all the way, or the 85% ish it defaults to?

I tend to leave mine closed these days, as said it doesn't really add a huge amount to the driving experience. I'd wouldn't option it on a new car, put it that way.
