I had always used my usual broker for previous Boxsters (986 and 987) and doubted I’d get a better deal; but to my surprise the Porsche Insurance broker Marsh Ltd came up with a good deal through Aviva.
[FONT=calibri"]Last June I renewed my annual comprehensive cover for £320.41, a very competitive premium by most standards. Recently, in anticipation of moving house, I called Marsh to tell them my new address, only to be told that the additional premium would be £385!
[FONT=calibri"]The only change of risk is my address, from the outskirts of a major city to a quiet country village. My Audi Quattro insurance was unchanged, and my house insurance actually went down and I received a refund. An additional premium of £385 for eight months is £578 for a whole year, on top of the original premium of £320 makes the equivalent annual premium £898 – almost three times the last renewal price. How can such a disproportionate increase be justified? Marsh told me they were just the broker applying the underwriter’s rules!
[FONT=calibri"]So I cancelled the policy and reinsured using my usual broker, obtaining a full year’s insurance less the cancellation refund for less than paying the additional change of address fee for eight months with Marsh. Then a woman from Marsh called saying that after three different agents had confirmed the extra premium for change of address would be £385, they had all made a mistake and it should be £53. Would I like to cancel my new policy and return to them? I declined.
[FONT=calibri"]The lesson I have learned is: find a broker you can trust, or don’t move house!
