Well I have now joined the ranks of the 996 owners, many thanks for those who took the time to answer my questions during the search process. I collected my '99 Ocean Mettalic Blue and Savannah C4 yesterday and haven't stopped smiling since....
Although not new to the marque I have found this a very different "buy" to my other experiences with 951's, 968's and earlier 911's. The 996 has so far exceeded my expectations, it feels like a 911 and drives like a 911 but the interior and driving experience are so different to earlier cars. For my needs (daily driver) it ticks all the boxes. I started this search determined to buy a 993 but soon questioned the rationale based on what I wanted the car for and the way the market was pricing both models. I am so glad I listened to those who advised me to drive a 996 and be willing to set aside prejudice and preconceived ideas. Having an OPC warranty was important to me so I was pleased to find cars where that was possible. In the end I saw a cracking C2 (the owner is on the forum so I shall spare his blushes by not naming him) ;-) but decided this C4 was a better fit for me at this time. The only small surprise so far is that I need to get the car serviced now rather than the couple of months the owner told me I had, not sure how I missed the date on the book but no major crisis as I had planned to do it soon anyway. Tossing up whether to go OPC or Northways, certainly no plans to use the OPC for any repairs other than warranty items [] Very interested in the tech. article about changing discs when the club have sorted out my status which keeps showing as non-member despite being a many years PCGB member, they are I understand, fixing it as we speak! Anyway all for now, looking forward to a happy 996 future!
