Donington developments

With F1 coming to Donny from 2010 it seems there is going to have to be a hell of alot of deveopment in a relatively short space of time to bring the circuit upto scratch no doubt with some changes to the circuit layout - hope they don't change it too much. It is a great thing for the region, especially if some of the teams re-locate, though i'll be sad to see Silverstone off the F1 calendar.

Great track but the facilities are a bit 1970's motorway services and as for the roads and access - well I think Martin needs to get some of his pikeys on the job! [:D][:D][:D]

(disclaimer: apologies to any gypsy Porsche owners on this forum who might be offended when logging on by hi-jacked WI-FI.) [;)]

Fantastic track for the lower Formula cars but it is definately not an F1 track in it's current guise regarding width, length, pits, runoff, local roads etc.

Personally I cannot believe it would be ready in time. The 2010 British GP will not be at Donny

I could be wrong though [;)]

well having witness the traffic jams for the sunday boot fairs, it does make you wonder how they will cope with the F1 crowds.

Can't decide if it's good news or bad - the one european grand prix held there (post war of course - can't speak for the earlier race!) was fabulous, but if it means there going to change the circuit I think it's a shame, and if it results in them moving the spectators back as far as at Silverstone, you'll probably get the best view from Donington Hall! Hope Tom's still got some serious influence!

the rights to the Grand Prix will be held by Donnington Ventures Leisure Ltd not the track and this means the race could be leased out and I believe this has been done before. Even if the track is ready have they forgotten that the M1 from junct 21 to 25 will be undergoing widening and anyone who ventures North from 25 at the moment knows what a nightmare that is and wont be finished till 2010 when the section 21 to 25 starts and that will go on for 5years. Damon Hill thinks it is not a done deal yet so I think a lot could change before we see the race at Donno.

.....so technically it may remain at Silverstone for some years but under stewardship of Donington Ventures Leisure Ltd/BRDC?

That is correct. If Donnington is not ready they can run the race at Silverstone for a return. Dont forget if you invest £100 million as rumoured you would want a profit of £10-15 million per annum, where is that going to come from? They have no land to sell like Silverstone because I think Tom still owns the circuit ,they just lease it.

Accordinging to the Mail on Sunday the rebuild is to be financed the same way as the new Wembley stadium ( by selling debentures to the public) which was how many years late and overbudget? How did they get planning with no one realising and if planning is not in place how do they think they are going to get that and change the circuit and roads in 2 years?

Well I whatever happens I just hope we retain a British GP at all whether it be at Donny or Silverstone. With the BRDC dilly dallying around like old men it wont be long before shorty looses his patients and sells the GP from under them to some Sheik who's willing to tarmac half the desert and spray glue on the other half to prevent sand blowing onto the tarmac. Maybe this development might shake up the BRDC to commit themselves and sort out a deal that secures the GP at Silverstone.

I also emember the classic European GP at Donny and that unbelievable drive by Senna. It is probably the best F1 GP I've ever seen in my life - certainly in the top three.
