Donington Park

According to today's Autocar mag, Donington is now back in Wheatcroft family control. This is hopefully good news for us all albeit the circuit now requires £600,000 spending on it to make it useable.

Only 600 now -Octane reckoned a cool million.

Wld be good to see it back again.............

As the administrator of the tenant was unable to find someone suitable, in the Landlord's (now Wheatcroft jnr) opinion, to take on the leasehold interest, the lease was terminated and reverted to Wheatcroft jnr.

The whisper I've heard is that Wheatcroft jnr is not interested in putting up the funds to return Donington to a fully functioning track and that's a massive shame.

I'm surprised Dr Palmer hasn't stepped in..................[8|]

guys, I understand the story is a bit more complicated. I thought that east midlands airport have offered to purchase the circuit as part of a runway expansion, and that they have offered very good money to do so. I believe that Dr Palmer has indeed approached them, but they were not very co-operative. Will see if I can dig out the links where I read this.

Donny's future is a little shaky right I fear! Still on the motorsport calendar for club events though.

Sign up to support the future of Donington as a race circuit.

They are also organising a 'show of support' with a meeting of classic and current sports and race cars at the circuit. 700+ people have already expressed an interest in attending. This also comes with the blessing of the Wheatcroft family...

"The proposed date for the "parade" is 7th March 2010. This is no protest, or demonstration - it is a "show of support". We want the owners and potential lease-holders to know that we all want to see motor racing at this beautiful circuit again - it should not follow Brooklands into the past."

Also some positive news from 6th January here:

So, how about we all show our support with one of the bi-annual 964RS and 964 PCGB/Rennlist meetings at Donington on that day. We could meet off the circuit in the morning then drive in a 964 convoy - and of course any other Porsche owners who'd like to come too. I've already had a chat with Dave Wilkinson (964 Reg Sec) and he supports the idea too.

I'm happy to liaise with Lee Coombs, the Save Donington organiser, to see if we can get an area set aside for when we arrive.

On Saturday I was told that DHL want to expand their logistics hub at East Midlands and may purchase the "site" .... [&o]

This is all very sad from what we thought may be.

The track is on my doorstep and its part of the reason i love to track my cars[&o][&o][&o]

From redgate to coppice is a seriously fun section of track. Surely we cannot lose this circuit! There is nothing like the challenge of working up to take craner flatout and getting the old hairpin just right. Not sure why hairpin is in the name as it's a really fast corner. My favourite uk track.

I have as far as i can remember only driven it once a long while ago now. I thought it was a fantastic track with Craner scaring the u know what out of me at first. It will be a shame to loose it. I will have a chuckle if the airport buys it. Given the circuit gets complaints about noise it will be somewhat ironic. Moan about the circuit and then get something that will cause loads more Noise!

It's the blind and light entry to Coppice that gets me going --- and that's just the start of it [:D][:D]

Surely it can't happen .... []

With you on that Rich - in the diary already. We went through all this with the DPRA when Wheattie was fighting Rolls Royce, Castle Donington and the airport to get the circuit back in action - bloody history repeating itself!

I'll be there, it'll give me a chance to run the Cup (there and back) ahead of Oulton Park.

Have you read this?

Its disgusting the amount of people owed money by this balls up - how people get away with it is just beyond me, what a joke.[&o]

It's a very sad situation. And it would be sadder still if Donington Circuit was sold-off to become another business park or extension of a runway. Yet another historic circuit shut down and lost forever. In 50 year's time they'll be posting on here asking what everyone did about it.

The Wheatcroft family have said they want to see motorsport again at Donington. The parade is a show of support for the family and for the future of racing at one of our favourite tracks.
