Donington Track Day. Sun 30th Oct

New member
When I was picking up my car from EMC on Wednesday, Kevin mentioned that he knew of 2 other 944s that would be at Donny this Sunday. Anybody here?

If you're there, look out for red 944S E573 EPG. It'll be me. Come and say hi [:)]

Cheers

James

Arrrgh.

Have a great day James [:D] I'm planning on doing quite a few of the Donington winter days this year to get used to my new car. I also see that Goldtrack have a nice Silverstone GP day on 11th Nov for £195

Did you say "this year" Paul? [;)]
Sorry couldn't resist, not that I can talk at the moment...

Personaly I'm hoping to do the Silverstone one, that is of course assuming I've got any money left over [:(]

Best regards,
Peter.

I'm seriously thinking about taking my car apart again which possibly means laying off the track time in order to save a bit of "toy money" toward it. I don't enjoy wet tracks anyway so I can live with myself doing that.

Depends. I might have located an S2 block with scoring and a good crank for the right money so if it comes through it would be rude not to buy it. As to 8V vs 16V then I'd prefer the latter but it depends on costs. The whole thing depends on costs of course and I can help with that by trying to shift some of the spare bits in the garage.[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]That would be helped greatly if anybody wanted a complete 2.5 turbo engine with under 4k on a total rebuild (7k on the top end), balanced bottom end, Raceware studs, Cometic gasket, K26/8 turbo, Autothority MAF and a pair of ECUs with custom mapped chips to suit. Things like thermal coated exhaust manifolds, ancillaries and clutch negotiable.[FONT=verdana, geneva"]

Toluene would probably give you the same output cheaper [;)], but as I am shortly passing the 170K mark how much is a newly rebuilt engine likely to go for, bearing in mind its a boring old 2.5 and evryone wants at least 3.0l theses days.

Oh and back on topic won't be me, I seem to have amassed 12k miles since March this year so the car needs a service. Enjoy the day,
Tony

Beaky is waiting for his new gearbox and clutch to go in, so he won't be out to play for a bit.

I'm with Fen on the wet track view. While I accept that you can still have a wet track in the summer, and a dry track in the winter, the odds don't stack up.

It's not much fun getting hot and sweaty in the car and cold and chilled in between either.

I like wet tracks, provided the run off is big and there are not too many idiots around. Compared to a Kart (or a westfield i would imagine) its luxury inside a nice warm car with a working demister.
Tony

Just looked on the Donongton site,, + they inform us that they are doing track days throughout Oct + Nov ,, on sundays...
Thing is I dont think there will be any garages as theyve knocked em down + having a refurb.....Building brand new ones....[:D][:D][:D]

"We" maybee pursuaded to make a visit.....Poss November sometime...

Wet days can be exciting....[;)][;)][;)] So long as you take caution....

Westfields are no fun in the wet at all, unless you enjoy your lap (read privates) being drenched in cold water every time you go around a right hand bend. The Porsche is much more comfortable and well behaved in the wet - the difference between a drift and a spin in a Westfield is almost too small to contemplate and their ability to generate a tank slapper even more so.

Wet track days are much kinder on the car, assuming you don't hit anything and nothing hits you. It is these provisos that make me less enthusiastic about booking a day which has a reasonably probability of being wet.

Big run offs are an advantage but, having had cars try to change direction on a straight because of uneven standing water and seeing how a car having a moment becomes a magnet for following cars (the following driver watches the incident unfold and his car goes where he is looking []) I wouldn't do a wet day through choice.

Donnington has the added "advantage" of being under the flight path for East Midland airport so, when wet, the surface is a heady cocktail of water and aviation fuel - Um nice![8D]

EMC will do you a nice new engine for 1700 + VAT plus fitting. They do a very good job too (that's where my engine came from).

I doubt they'd do a Turbo engine for the same price as a Lux one. Even if they do I take it that's exchange or rebuilding your existing engine? Gives a good starting point for pricing anyway.

Hi Dave,
From experience I'd be cautious about their Trackzone days, they're cheap but are filled up largely with idiots in disposable cars. It may have improved now, but there didn't seem to be enough policing of driving standards on the days I attended - in fact it seemed to get progressively worse.
Saying this, I may still be tempted try it again this year as I want to get some tracktime before 2006, but I'll be prepared to go home early if it looks too silly.

Best regarrds,
Peter

Peter will you kindly not refer to the 944 Register like that [;)]

I did two Trackzone days last winter and they were fine. One was very wet and admittedly there were a few stoppages, but I still managed 120 track miles for £95 which is good value in my book.

I did one day the year before and it was much, much worse [] at this end of the market it can be hit 'n miss (hopefully not literally)

Ive done a good day and a bad day, the bad day was better in the afternoon once all the idiots had broken their vehicles, but yes the organisers could have done a better job at removing the idiots.

Our trouble is that we are used to Goldtrack who, in my eyes, do an exceptional job in ensuring all is as it should be.
