Donnington - Noise Requirements

I've just booked for the PCGB Trackday at Donnington in May. The confirmation letter state that the drive by noise limit will be 98db(A) and this was unlikely to be achieved by 911s with any type of sports box. My 993 has RSRs. Should I just cancel or is there a chance I could get through?

Gents,

Please explain "short shifting". Also, how are the sound level measurements taken on the day? Is it a scrutineering type check that's only done once ? or is the sound level meter positioned by the side of the track and measures every car that drives past?

Cheers.

Donnington use a drive-by sound check, which is on the track level. 911's usually produce a much lower drive-by level than static, due to the mechanical noise from the engine being at the rear when measuring static levels (Particularly air-cooled engines with a big clattery fan in the rear). 100db static usually equates to about 95dB drive-by. Short shiufting means change gear before max RPM to reduce noise

Have done 98db day with mine twice at Donington. I have RSR's and had no problem either time. Early on I just went a bit steady down the pit straight, but later in the day (when I wasn't so worried about being stopped) I let it rip. As above, I don't think they exceed the 100db on drive by. Certainly the TVR's there sounded a lot noisier!

Well if a TVR can pass we are all safe, I think I can safely apply for Donnington then.

Why doesnt the club keep a register of the various types of cars and base mods(exhausts) and stick it on the site as a guide as this question is frequently asked and every track is different and we all want to know.

Maurice just a basic guide that says something like this, surely the PCGB track day representatives can do a basic list and compile it as they go along this year.

Donnington
Passes std 98db driveby Doesnt pass
Std 993 ok, std 993 TT, std 964 ok, std 996, std 3.2 964 with cat bypass or cup pipe
std boxster(2.5,2.7,3.2) 996 with sports exhaust, 993's with sport exhaust.

Hi
I attended the Goodwood track day last week in my standard 993 and was amazed that my cars reading was 105 db. I was at Castle Combe last year and had no problem. To the best of my knowledge the exhaust isn't damaged and the car has just had a mayor service so am a little confused as to way the high reading. I have more track days booked so am keen to sort it out. Any ideas????

Thanks Maurice, thats all that someone needs to do a couple of time a year after a track day at the regular venues as this would give every one a general idea.
