Donor Car

Hello everyone....this may sound like a sob story but it may have a happy ending....I was given my dads Porcshe 924S when he had to give up driving due to ill health. The 924 was my daily runner until 13th February when a Rover 75 jumped a red light and I hit him....the car was written off and much legal wrangling ensued with my insurers.
My Dad died in October and as it was his last car I would love to rebuild her, if anyone knows of or has a 924 with a front end and chassis in good condition they would like to sell (cheaply!!) please let me know. I can have it towed but as based in the Midlands would really appreciate it being close-ish to Staffordshire please..

Thanks for your help and happy new year..

Guido. Welcome to this forum.

What sort of degree of damage has the 924S got? Not quite sure from your post if it is just body panels, which are fairly common given the number of ordinary 924's being broken for spares, or whether the chassis legs are bent as well (is that why you mentioned towing a complete car?) - which is a rather different job.

Hi Muddy, Thanks for your reply....the damage is pretty much the front end wings onwards (bonnet, grille, radiater, lighting mech etc)....I have got it kept at a local garage who have said she will need to go on a jig and have a part of a chassis taken from another car and welded in place....it may seem like a case of throwing good money after bad but due to the situation I really do want to get her running again, what makes it painful is she was absolutley immaculate before the crash...
It looks like the cheapest option will be to find either a rolling project someone has given up on or a car which has had a rear end accident...

I totally understand. In fact given the car's meaning to you, then rather than another rolling shell (which wouldn't be the 'same' car ever again) repair would seem worth really persuing.
If the chassis leg(s) are not pushed back into the bulkhead then repairs should be possible. Firstly, if your garage can tell you exactly what is needed i.e. front 18" or whatever of chassis leg plus list of panels and parts, I know someone in Sandbach (easy access up M6) who is breaking two 924's and may be prepared to help.

OR, have you considered this car http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Porsche-924-1981-Full-Car-For-Spares-or-Repairs_W0QQitemZ320201398456QQihZ011QQcategoryZ10408QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

as a source of spares ? Trailer hire for a day is usually only £35 or so.

If you bought this I feel sure you could recoup much of the money by selling-on various unwanted parts.
(I am/was tempted because I need a set of decent seats and a windscreen etc.)

Guido, i have a donor car on my drive at the moment, no front end damage at all, also have a spare bonnet as well as 2 light mechanisms, radiator etc, not looking for top dollar, just looking to get rid now as have robbed most of the bits i wanted.
